Bluehost’s “Secret Numbers”

January 2010 has seen some good growth for our hosting platform. I am usually pretty secretive about our company “numbers”, but have decided to spill the beans tonight on my blog. Below are some interesting stats from our various hosting brands.

Total Domains Hosted : 1.9+ million domains
Total Paying Hosting Customers: More than 525,000
Total Servers: 850+ (ALWAYS rotating out older servers)
Total Sales/Billing/Support Requests Per Day: Approximately 5,000
Number of new customers (not domains) added each day (Mon-Fri): 800+
Number of new customers (not domains) added each day (Sat, Sun): 500+
Number of new domains added each month: 50,000 – 70,000
Total Bandwidth Capacity: 20 Gigabits/Second (100% ours, not shared in ANY way)
Average Hold Time For Support: 19 seconds
Number of Employees: 240+
Registrar For Domains: Fastdomain Inc (Sister company that “sells” domains to Bluehost/Hostmonster)
Outsourced services: NONE!!!!!!!
Revenue: _____ (Some things really do need to be kept private)
Profit: _____ (Some things really do need to be kept private)

Bluehost/Hostmonster/Fastdomain have been wildly successful. I’m so grateful to have been part of this incredible venture. There was and is an ENORMOUS amount of effort put into making our products the best that we know how to make it. Add to that a lot of luck and we get Bluehost and Hostmonster.

Thank you so much to all our loyal customers that tell all your friends to sign up! The vast majority of all our sales come from non affiliate related word of mouth recommendations. That doesn’t happen unless our customers think we are doing a pretty good job. We promise to try our hardest to improve the things that are “good” that should be “great”, and to add the features that you need that no other company will bother to add. That is our promise to you!

Thanks again.

    Hi Matt,

As far as I’m concerned Bluehost is the best in the business. Your service and technical support is wins hands down and your added value products leave the competition way behind.

I certainly hope Bluehost continues to evolve and expand. If you win so do I as a customer!!

I am a customer of Bluehost. I spend more time to evaluate at least more than five web host providers ( those are my private statistics) and a conclusion came out that Bluehost is my favorite. I love bluehost not only its products and services, but an open “transparent” manner to promote healthy competition in the web host field as well.

    Thanks Matt,

I continue to refer people to you because I love what you wrote about Virtualization (you don’t need it) and your contributions to open source projects like MySQL and Linux.

The non-Virtualization makes you one of the greenest hosts I know.

The OSS contributions makes you one of the coolest techie hosts I know.

Matt, what number tech supports of 240?

It’s been a pleasure to do business with you so far. Thanks, Matt.

  6. Congrats on a great year. I moved to Bluehost about four years ago and have been happy with my decision. A couple of things that keep me here is the small company feel you provide through your service and your blog. I’ve never felt like a tiny cog in a massive machine that makes no difference if I decided to take my business elsewhere. I feel like my business matters here. I love the web chat support too. Keep up the great work!

Hi Matt, I’m one of your satisfied customer. I want to suggest a life hosting plan (sort of one time payment in change of a “forever” hosting feature). I think people could be interested in such a thing, I mean a thing that sounds like: “Your site and your content (and your work, and “you”) will be online as far as our company will be on Earth”.

Thanks, keep up the great work.

The reason why Bluehost continues to grow is because it never waivers from the core of its business. Reliable hosting with the BEST customer support in the business. Until other hosting companies can match the skills or even come close to the employees of Bluehost, it’ll be hard to viably compete.

Whether it’s the 24/7 customer support or the honest, very transparent affiliate program, every aspect of Bluehost is upfront and sincere.

That is why Bluehost continues to grow. In a business where reliability matters, people refer and recommend companies that they can fully trust with their business. For web hosting, Bluehost falls in that category.

Doesnt surprise me the growth of bluehost web hosting. You are one of a hand of web hosting providers that try to push the envelope and keep adding tremendous value for each customer.

This is what makes Bluehost a great web hosting provider…

  13. They are some amazing statistics Matt, and I have no doubt that they have come from the hard work you have done to make your business what it is today, and with your continuing hard work and I see no reason why Bluehost, Hostmonster & Fastdomain can’t continue to grow in leaps and bounds.

I’ve been exceedingly happy with products/service/support at Hostmonster and I let my prosective clients know this. The fact is that you’ve been rock-solid and I appreciate it. I’ve had opportunity to use 2 other hosting companies and they did’nt come close. Thanks for your hard work and that of the people you employ.

  17. Bluehost is great in hosting website… I’ve been blessed being part of this host.

  18. Hey Matt,

Where do your retired servers go? I assume you have a bulk deal with a reseller so you don’t need to spend time with individual cheapskate purchasers. However, if I knew who to ask for your sweet hand-me-downs, it would boost their demand just a tad, and boost your value to them.

I would find it very hard to believe that they would be unhappy with you letting the world know where to buy their stuff.

    Pretty please?

I’ve been hosting with Surpass since 2005 and since then, my hosting needs has become more complex, requiring features like multi-IP hosting. Have not heard of Bluehost before until I stumbled on this blog – looks like a hosting provider well worth considering. Will be checking out your hosting packages.

  20. Yeah Bluehost sure are one of the best when it comes to reliable hosting. Top job guys and thanks.

  25. Hi matt,

i am using blue host for my websits (www.mauritius-seychelles.co.uk, http://www.yourukworld.com) as well as many of my clients. But recently i start having some issues which make me think about switching some of my customers to other hosting companies. one thing which cost me money was the promise i made with my customer about Google<yahoo advertising vouchers and in end blue host told me that they only give these vouchers to USA and Canada company whihc is really a big let down especially when your not mentioning this on your hsoting featurs.

    Matt,

I really hope you are unaware of the way things are going for your customers. I was excited when I found bluehost, but now I will most likely take my 100 plus domain names and hosting needs elsewhere.

The last year has been a really frustrating experience with all the downtime. I could live with it, but then I get threatened with having my sites shut down unless I bring my MySQL tables below one thousand total…that’s just seven websites!

I don’t expect much at this point from you, but it would a nice surprise to get a reply from the CEO and a promise to improve customer service.
