Features on the way!!!

Wow, the comments have been amazing! I am getting a little embarressed by all the compliments. We also received many requests for features and improvements. Let me assure you that these comments do not fall on deaf ears. One of the most requested features is “Ruby on Rails”. Ruby is a programming language similiar to Perl or Python. It is amazing really in the some aspects. The “Rails” portion of Ruby on Rails is a cool framework of tools to help write better web applications. It didn’t take long to get this feature going. We should have done it sooner. We currently have it running on a couple of servers. We will be rolling this live to all servers on Monday of next week. At that time we will send a message to everyone letting them know to give it a try if they wish.

Thanks,

Matt Heaton / President Bluehost.com

I’m really glad to see Rails support is coming, as that was one of my three primary requests. The other two I’m still curious about however: is there any chance of PHP 5 and MySQL 5 anytime soon? I know fast MySQL is coming, but I don’t know if it will be version 5. Bluehost is already a truly kick arse host, but with those two it would be downright impossible not to call you guys the bar-none best on the net.

Sounds cool! Look forward to it. Was curious when you plan to post our positive comments about bluehost.com that some of us emailed you. Kind of excited to see mine up there.. lol

    Thanks Matt :D

Hello Matt.. just found this in my mailbox. As many have done already, I can’t put into words how much I appreciate Bluehost. I’ve had my own site host by you guys for almost two years as well as pushing a couple of my clients to take your hosting as well. Couldn’t be happier with the service and just everything overall. Kudos plenty. One question since you made a post of ‘features coming’. I’ve looked through the forums at Bluehost, and haven’t found any indication of Bluehost taking it on, but.. what would be the outlook of possibly making Bluehost ColdFusion compliant this year or the coming future? I know as well as myself, there are a lot of web developers and designers that would love to have this feature. As Alex stated above.. it already is for me downright impossible not to call Bluehost the best on the web, so this was just a curiousity question. Thanks for your time, and all the work you and your team have put into Bluehost.

    Best Regards.

We already have PHP5 on certain servers. We won’t roll it out everywhere because PHP5 breaks a lot of PHP4 code, but you can be moved to a PHP5 box. (In fact, box36, one of our PHP5 machines, is also one of the Ruby On Rails test servers right now)

MySQL 5 won’t happen until cpanel supports it.

  5. Holey Moley! For six dollars and ninety five cents a month I host my biz site and also a wiki and PHP list for political rabble rousing and if I ever learn more I see I can do shopping carts and all that crap. Fantastico install makes this easy as I am a video guy not a programmer or IT illuminati.

The really weird thing is I actually get prompt service via e-mail and even more “Twilight Zone” (remember, 6.95/mo!) I get real people on the phone!

Blue host is one of the few things where I can say it’s almost too good to be true! I’ll stop. I’m gushing.

Thats great news Matt about adding Ruby on Rails support!!! I agree with Alex, PHP 5 and MySQL 5 / Fast MySQL would be beyond great. Unlimited domains would a great feature too. Matt, you might wanna put out a list of the top requested features.

  7. Ben Crowder says:

Hurrah! I’d almost given up hope of RoR when I asked support about it a couple of weeks ago, so this is like Christmas all over again. :)

    Matt,

I have enjoyed my experience with Bluehost so far; I’m proud to be a bluehost customer.

One request: could you move this blog offsite, like Flickr’s? Today was the day I chose to upgrade to Movable Type 3.2, and today was the first time I’ve seen real outages of the servers. Needless to say, that caused a little anxiety with regard to my backups and the stability of the install. It works great, so I’m happy, but during the outages I was really aching for some information on how things were going in your batcave full of servers.

    Regards,

I am glad to hear bluehost will support the new feature.
    Thank you,

  10. Woah we will be getting RoR sometime soon! Amazing this truly makes me happy. I was intially going to develop for this. This is truly great news. Maybe I’ll go with a mix of Ruby, PHP, Javascript and Ajax. There are very few RoR hosts out there that don’t cost a lot of money. You guys are going to make a killing!

    Great work!

  11. Irish John says:

Excellent. It’s something I wanted to take a look at.

BTW. VERY happy with Bluehost so far. Keep up the good work.

  12. This is great news!! I’m definitely going to be re-writing my site in ruby!!

  13. MG says:

WOW – ROR — am scared of you… have read about the red, but I guess now I must check it out for real. Thanks!

  14. Andreas says:

Matt, I just signed up with you guys today and have to say I’m also very impressed with the amount of site administration you expose for us and allow us to modify. I’m on the process of getting switched over to a php5 box. Thanks again!

  15. Phil says:

hey can we get subversion? that would be *really* useful… my buddy over at dreamhost is rolling with it and my project teams need it. oh yes.

aside from that, thanks for continued amazing service! the site admin stuff is great!

  16. Dave says:

I really like bluehost but may have to leave because I really want to use Coldfusion (esp once scorpio is out). Would be great if you guys could support this.
